My Story

Do you love Giraffes? I do, which I suppose explains the below,

In 2018 I learned the hard way that “getting fit” doesn’t always go to plan. One Peak District misstep, one mountain rescue adventure, and I ended up with:

-2 broken bones (tibia + fibula),

-a dislocation, torn ligament, and no cartilage left in the joint,

-3 operations,

-enough metalwork to set off airport scanners,

-and a few nerves that just gave up.

I’ve since had some of the metal removed (No I haven't kept it). I’m down to two pins now—so technically I’m running in Tegan v2.2.

And this Sunday, I’ll be tackling 10K at Chester Zoo which I have spent plenty of time at but never run at- unless racing under cover when the skies open. My sporty partner was supposed to run with me… but he’s bailed (okay fine, he’s at work, but still). So it’s just me, my dodgy ankle, my inhaler and a good level of stubbornness.

Why bother? Because giraffes.
I visit Chester Zoo every year—dragging friends, family, and anyone who’ll come along for snow leopards, picnics, and a mild hay allergy. This time, I want to give something back. Giraffes are wonders of evolution—hearts powerful enough to pump blood all the way up those incredible necks—and yet they’re at risk of disappearing. I personally cannot imagine the Savannah without these majestic creatures and I'm sure many of you see viewing giraffes a zoo favourite- where else can you view a yellow and brown creature loping around on 4 sticks? Chester Zoo’s conservation work helps keep them craning above extinction.

Here’s where you come in:
If any of what is shared above has moved you, please donate what you can. Think of it like buying me a coffee—except instead of caffeine, you’re keeping giraffes safe and sponsoring a titanium-powered woman hobbling through a zoo.

*Every donation makes a real difference.
*You’re not just supporting me—you’re part of the herd keeping giraffes safe.
*And you’ll know this run ends in laughter, not mountain rescue.

So, want to see what stubbornness and stainless steel can do? Sponsor me today—it means the world, to me and the giraffes.
